Literature Text

Pretty in pink boots
       Covered in grass and dirt
Picking wild flowers
        Poking bugs with a stick
Golden hair long and wild
No time for bows and things

I will never mind
Just love you all the more

Dancing ballet in a tutu
        Loving the Rock and Roll
Serving tea in a crown
Defend the castle riding a dragon
Playing school with critters
Teach about dinosaurs and the sea

I will never mind
Just love you all the more

Color in the coloring books
Drawing shapes and outside the lines
Help to sweep the house
        Then the broom’s a horse
Making dinner in an apron
        Cackling like a mad scientist

Never doubt; I will never mind
Just love you all the more
Recently I read a poem here on deviantart and it really got me to thinking. I thought about how my little three year old needs to always hear from me that she's ok being who she is no matter what the rest of the world says. Children need to be reminded of our unconditional love in a wide variety of ways, not just from us saying it with words. Our actions as parents show so much more to our little ones than our words ever will. This starts when they are very small and continues for the rest of their lives

The world will influence my children no matter how much I try to protect their sense of self. When my daughter starts to doubt me I will have the opportunity to pull out the writings I am doing now and show her how much I have always loved her for everything she is. I can only hope that she will have the strength to continue being who she is, no matter what the world tells her is right or wrong.
